Our Story
Our mission is to help empower a generation of children to live happy, healthy lives. We currently do this by sending out thousands of our happy little boxes each month to little cooks around the UK (and increasingly across Europe!) and through our charitable work. Exciting plans are afoot to build on our mission in 2021 & beyond!
WHAT DO WE MEAN BY HEALTHY?
Our food philosophy is based around REAL food. We believe that the food we eat & give our children should be as close as possible to its natural state – fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, natural sugars and unprocessed ingredients. This also means eating organic whenever possible. We don’t follow vegetarian or vegan diets ourselves but fully support those who do, as well as those with allergies. You can read more about our food philosophy in our blog pages here.
WHAT DO WE MEAN BY HAPPY?
Perhaps a strange question but important to pause and consider in today’s busy world. Happiness for children is about spending time in a happy environment, being physically and mentally stimulated by the world around them. As parents ourselves we live through the continuous guilt comes with modern parenting! However, we try to reconnect with the “little things” and find happiness for our little cooks and ourselves! Some days are easier than others but our kits always include activities that help families connect and find those happy moments.
OUR CHARITABLE CONNECTIONS
We want to ensure that we are doing what we can to help children outside the reach of our happy little boxes. We do this primarily through our charitable donation to Magic Breakfast. For every box we send we donate the cost of a healthy breakfast. Magic Breakfast’s mission “to ensure no child is too hungry to learn” really resonated with us and our own families. From a nutritional perspective breakfast is such an important meal to get children’s brains and bodies set up for busy days of learning (whether at school or at home!).
OUR STORY
Our founder Helen Burgess has always been passionate about food and it’s connection to health and well being. After her son Artie was born she was inspired to quit her job working in strategy at No. 10 and retrain as a Nutritionist. She was struck by how often she was asked for help by parents wanting to give their children healthy meals and snacks but who lacked the knowledge or time to know where to start. The idea for Little Cooks Co was seeded there!
OUR BUSINESS
Helen started Little Cooks Co in 2017 (helped or hindered by Artie!) and spent 2 years devising recipes, sourcing and packing ingredients into boxes from her kitchen.
Our team has grown to a small group of working parents, passionate about what we do. We all work from home, fitting the needs of Little Cooks Co around the needs of our families and were often joined on zoom calls by little faces, even before lockdown! Our hearts sing when we get lovely feedback from our customers!
The business couldn’t function without our wonderful packing team, based outside Newcastle. Carol, Steph and the team hand pack every item that leaves their unit, and even hand write every gift message you ask for – so please, not too many emojis!

Our charity partnership
Every box we sell also pays for a vulnerable child to attend a Healthy Holiday Club, at which the child is guaranteed a healthy meal alongside enriching activities such as cooking, art and sports.
Feeding Britain believe that access to good quality food for all is possible, and essential for a thriving society. We whole-heartedly agree and feel very proud to support them in their work.
